Latest ARM Chips, Ready to compete in the market
Marvel Technology as an ARM chip manufacturers are preparing their mainstay chips. Not only for smartphones, ARM also prepare a quad-core chips in the netbook, to suppress the dominance of Intel.
The news comes from Samsung’s roadmap document that has been leaked. From these documents, revealed that Samsung as a new player in the netbook market, has been prepared in cooperation with the Marvel Technology.
Quoted from Softpedia, Monday (04/26/2010) ARM chips have been preparing their variants, ranging from single core to quad-core chip for smartphones and netbooks.
Samsung will use the single-core chip, the ARM Cortex-A8 1GHz. In addition, dual-core chip ARM Cortex-A9 800Mhz Orion also being prepared to be marketed in Q3 2010. Both chips will be followed by Mercury (600MHz Cortex-A5) and Pegasus (Cortex-A9 single-core) that is planned out in Q2 2011.
Leaked roadmap is a long term plan to Samsung, in doing business in the netbook market and smartphone. Not enough chips above, Marvel Technology is currently preparing several chip follows:
- 1GHz dual-core Cortex A9 (Hercules) – present Q3 2011
- 600MHz dual-core Cortex-A5 (Venus) and 1.2GHz (Draco) – present 2012/2013
- 1.2 Ghz quad-core Cortex-A9 (Aquila) – present 2012/2013
