EasyPC790, The cheapest Netbook
This netbook will be the cheapest commercial netbook in the world since it claimed worth only US$80 . The netbook is named EasyPC790 and produced by MenQ group.
Of course, you can’t exactly expect bleeding edge performance from an $80 machine. Instead, what you get is a 7 inch device with an 800 x 480 pixel display, QWERTY keyboard, 400mHz processor, 2GB of solid state storage, and 128MB of RAM. The EasyPC E790 currently runs Windows CE 5.0, but the company plans to release a Google Android firmware update soon.
If you’re underwhelmed by the specs, keep in mind, the EasyPC790 is a step up from a product the company was pushing earlier this year with a 7 inch, 480 x 272 pixel display.
The following are things that can be done by EasyPC790

I purchased an similar unit via eBay, direct from Hong-Kong. Comparing the photos, it appears to be the same machine e/w WinCE6.0 and a VIA ARM-VT8500 processor but slightly different installed software from what your video describes.
It is a cute little machine, weighing 1 pound, 5.7 ounces with a 800×480 7″ screen, measured diagonally. This machine is absolutely generic with no brand name whatsoever. Installed memory is 128MB. The 2GB Flash Disk has 1.7GB of formatted space, currently with 1.59GB free.
It contains MicroSoft WordPad but also several 3rd-party software packages – a MicroSoft Office compatible suite by SoftMaker Software GmbH, supporting Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats. Other 3rd-part software installed is WinRAR, Foxit Reader, Image Viewer and audio recorder. It also contains MicroSoft Messenger, Outlook, Media Player and Internet Explorer.
The Internet Explorer browses most sites OK, albeit a bit slowly, but its java engine fails to support some sites, such as PowerMyPc.com’s internet speed test. Also, YouTube doesn’t work, complaining that the Flash Player needs to be updated. Yahoo Mail classic works just fine, as does Gmail. According to IronGeek.com, the browser identifies itself as Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Although the minimal documentation indicates that the SD slot is just that, an SD slot, in actuality it also supports SDHC.
WiFi works just fine with my in-house D-Link router.
I concur with most everything that was stated: Bought mine also on Ebay – Put 4Gb SD Card, and a 4Gb USB key – Had some problem with Wireless Going on and off – Could be a power issue – since I was running on battery – Removed the EXT. SD Card and rebooted, Wireless came back on – I have used both Public and Private WIFI (WPA) and they seemed to resolve fine.
I have downloaded some MPG Video’s and other than size, they seem to run ok. It is hard to get the correct formatted size of videos.
I saw CHARBAX Video – He put an ANDROID Desktop and Stated it could run ANDROID- The other minions on the WEB picked up on it,and it is now an “URBAN LEGEND”. It does not run ANDROID – It Runs WINCE 6 – I think thousands of hits and emails have been RUMORED because one guy put the word ANDROID next to the EASYPC 790. I really hope they do come out, but telling people something that is not true makes all the information bogus.
It DOES NOT PLAY YOUTUBE (although the MFG states it does). FLASH is NOT part of the package – It would be killer if it did.
It is a fun toy, but tough to get around all the internet standards (FLASH, JAVA, etc). Plays MP3 Music over tiny speakers ( External Jacks on). It is basically a large Development Platform. I tried to download several WINCE apps, and many of them stated “NOT A VALID WINCE Program”. That is from PocketPC sites, and other WINCE sites – That is also a shame – It would be nice if someone would support the unit with APPS – Maybe needs cross compiling. -not sure.
Really hope someone either modifies a browser to run Flash lite, or can allow some apps to run native WINCE.
I wanted to comment on a couple points in Eric H’s post. Android has been released for the VIA 8505 chipset that is in a lot of these devices. I have it, so it’s no longer just a rumor. The other half of these have the VT8500 chipset which does not run Android yet. VT8500 will run a form of Linux which is still very much in development while the 8505 does not yet. Both types of the device will run Youtube through a seperate application but I haven’t seen it integrated into a browser yet. In regards to getting software to run it can be a challenge but adding GAPI will allow some Pocket PC software to run and using PocketDos will allow some DOS applications to run. There is also a ~65MB zip file floating around that has multiple compatible applications that will run on this devices.
i just purchased a VIA-ARM VT8500 have not ever received it yet are you telling me that at some point i will be able to run Linux on this? That would be great
Interesting comments. I purchased what appears to be the same or similar device. It is en-route now. I intend to use it mostly for writing. Have an 8 GB SDHC card, and flash drive. I was curious to see what can be done with such a minimal device. Thanks for all the advice.

I also ordered one of these to play with from the noted eBay seller.
Great info here, thanks!
